Colera

Colera is a small coastal village on the Costa Brava, located in the Alt Empordà district, in the province of Girona, just a few kilometres from the French border. Built around a cove and a small fishing harbour, it retains an authentic character, quieter than its neighbours Llançà and Portbou. The rocky, indented coastline alternates between small pebble beaches and sheltered coves, popular for swimming and diving in clear waters. Inland, the valley holds the remains of the Romanesque monastery of Sant Quirze de Colera, dating back to the early Middle Ages, a testament to the region's religious heritage. The nearby Cap de Creus Natural Park offers walking opportunities along coastal paths with views over the Mediterranean. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, is also shaped by the tramontane, a strong wind typical of this part of Catalonia. Colera has a railway connection on the Barcelona–Perpignan line, making travel around the region straightforward. Overall, the village retains a calm, rural atmosphere, away from the bustle of the larger Costa Brava resorts.
