Bellcaire d'Empordà

Bellcaire d'Empordà is a small village in the Baix Empordà area, Girona province, Catalonia, just a few kilometres from La Bisbal d'Empordà and the Costa Brava beaches around Pals and Torroella de Montgrí. The village retains a medieval core with narrow lanes, remnants of its old town walls and a castle overlooking the surrounding countryside, characterised by rice paddies and farmland typical of the Baix Empordà plain. Bellcaire is particularly well known for its large Sunday flea market, one of the biggest in Catalonia, drawing plenty of visitors each week in search of antiques and second-hand finds. The surrounding countryside offers a peaceful rural setting, ideal for walking or cycling between neighbouring villages and along the banks of the Daró river. Its proximity to the coast makes it easy to combine a countryside stay with days at the beach. Local cuisine highlights Empordà produce, including Pals rice, seafood and regional wines, all set against a quiet backdrop far removed from the busier tourist areas along the coastline.
