Graveson

Graveson is a Provençal village in the Bouches-du-Rhône department, lying between Avignon and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence at the foot of the Alpilles hills. Surrounded by orchards and market-garden plains, it retains the rural character typical of this agricultural region. The village houses the Auguste Chabaud Museum, set in the painter's former family home, along with the Museon di Rodo, a museum dedicated to antique carousels and fairground rides, a rather distinctive feature for the area. The village centre, with its narrow streets and plane tree-shaded square, reflects traditional Provençal architecture. Graveson makes a convenient base for exploring nearby attractions: Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with its Roman remains, Tarascon and its castle, the hilltop village of Les Baux-de-Provence in the Alpilles, and Avignon with its Palais des Papes, around fifteen kilometres away. The region enjoys a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers, ideal for browsing Provençal markets and sampling local produce such as fruit, olive oil and Côtes-du-Rhône wine. The village's quiet atmosphere contrasts with the livelier surrounding tourist towns.
