Gratot

Gratot is a small village in the Manche department of Normandy, close to Coutances. It is best known for the Château de Gratot, a partly ruined medieval castle surrounded by moats and gardens, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. The site has undergone extensive restoration led by a local heritage association and is open to visitors, offering a glimpse of early Norman architecture in a peaceful rural setting. The village itself retains the traditional character of the Cotentin countryside, with green hedgerowed farmland, meadows and scattered traditional farms. Its proximity to Coutances, home to a notable Gothic cathedral, makes it easy to combine a visit with further exploration of the region's religious heritage. The area enjoys a mild oceanic climate, with gentle summers and moderate winters, well suited to countryside walks and heritage visits.
