Vernole

Vernole is a small town in the province of Lecce, in Puglia, located in the Salento peninsula just a few kilometres from the Adriatic coast. The municipal area includes several hamlets, notably Acaya, known for its fortified historic centre of Aragonese origin, with walls and a castle reflecting 16th-century military architecture. This walled village is regarded as one of the best-preserved examples of Renaissance town planning in southern Italy. The surrounding countryside offers a typical Salento landscape, with centuries-old olive groves, dry stone walls and a peaceful setting well suited to walking and cycling. The nearby Adriatic Sea makes it easy to reach well-known beaches such as Torre dell'Orso or San Foca, both a short drive away.
