Entrecasteaux

Entrecasteaux is a village in the upper Var region of Provence, nestled beside the Bresque river and dominated by its château, a listed historic monument. The building, remodelled between the 16th and 18th centuries, is surrounded by a terraced formal garden offering open views over tiled rooftops and the surrounding hills. The village retains an authentic Provençal character, with narrow lanes, ochre-coloured façades and an old church. The surrounding countryside is marked by vineyards producing wines under the Côtes de Provence appellation, alongside stretches of scrubland and forest well suited to walking. The Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters, supports outdoor activities for much of the year. A local market regularly enlivens the main square, offering regional produce such as olive oil, honey and goat's cheese. Entrecasteaux makes a convenient base for exploring other hilltop villages in the Var and the surrounding wine country, set within a quiet, rural landscape away from the busier coastal areas.
