Los Gigantes

Los Gigantes is a resort town on the south-western coast of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, best known for the towering volcanic cliffs of the same name that drop several hundred metres straight into the Atlantic Ocean. The small marina serves as the starting point for boat trips to see dolphins and pilot whales, which can be spotted year-round in the deep waters off the coast. The town has a purpose-built natural pool and sea-access bathing areas, along with easy reach of the black-sand Playa de la Arena nearby. The mountain village of Masca, known for its hiking trail through a steep-sided ravine, lies about a twenty-minute drive away. Thanks to the island's south-western exposure, the climate here stays dry and mild throughout the year, sheltered from the trade winds and rainfall more common elsewhere on Tenerife. Compared with other resorts on the island, Los Gigantes retains a quieter atmosphere, with a modest seafront, a handful of fish restaurants and local shops, and little in the way of nightlife.
