Matino

Matino is a town in the province of Lecce, in the Puglia region, right at the heart of the Salento peninsula. It lies just a few kilometres from the Ionian coast, making it a convenient base for reaching seaside resorts such as Gallipoli or Santa Maria al Bagno. The historic centre retains traces of the baroque architecture typical of the area, with façades built from local limestone and the narrow lanes characteristic of Salento villages. The local economy remains tied to Mediterranean agriculture, particularly olive and grape growing, which shapes the surrounding landscape of centuries-old olive groves and dry-stone walls.
