Torre Vado

Torre Vado is a small coastal village in Puglia, part of the municipality of Morciano di Leuca in the province of Lecce, within the Salento peninsula. It takes its name from a coastal watchtower dating back to the Aragonese period, built to keep watch over the shoreline against seaborne raids. The village lies along a rocky coastline interspersed with small beaches and clear-water inlets, typical of this southern tip of Italy, close to Santa Maria di Leuca, where the Adriatic and Ionian seas meet. The local economy is still shaped by fishing and summer tourism, with a number of seafront venues, seafood restaurants and holiday rentals. The Mediterranean climate, hot and dry in summer and mild in winter, draws visitors mainly between June and September. The surrounding area is well suited to diving, swimming and coastal walks, as well as day trips to nearby Salento villages known for their stone architecture and culinary traditions. Torre Vado therefore makes for a quiet base from which to explore this southern part of Puglia.
