Trappeto

Trappeto is a small coastal village in Sicily, in the province of Palermo, lying on the Tyrrhenian coast facing the Gulf of Castellammare. This former fishing village has retained an authentic, quiet atmosphere, away from the island's larger tourist hubs. It is particularly known as the place where sociologist and activist Danilo Dolci carried out his work supporting disadvantaged local communities during the 1950s, an episode that left a lasting mark on the village's history. The area offers direct access to the sea, with sandy beaches and rocky coves typical of this stretch of the Sicilian coastline. The surroundings are well suited to coastal walks, fishing and sampling Sicilian cuisine, particularly fresh fish and dishes featuring citrus fruit grown locally. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, makes the village a pleasant destination from spring through to autumn. Trappeto also serves as a convenient base for exploring neighbouring coastal towns such as Balestrate and Terrasini, as well as the city of Palermo, which is under an hour away by car.
