Scopello

Scopello is a small hamlet within the municipality of Castellammare del Golfo, in the province of Trapani on Sicily's north-western coast. The village is best known for its Tonnara, a former tuna fishery now open to visitors, and for its Faraglioni, striking rock stacks rising from the sea just off the small cove. This cove, reached via a short path from the village centre, is popular for swimming and snorkelling thanks to its clear waters. Scopello also serves as one of the entry points to the Zingaro Nature Reserve, Sicily's first protected natural park, which stretches along the coast towards San Vito Lo Capo and offers several coastal walking trails overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The village itself, built around a small courtyard typical of the area, has a handful of shops, restaurants and bars serving fresh fish and traditional Sicilian dishes. The Mediterranean climate, warm and dry in summer, makes outdoor activities particularly enjoyable from April to October. Its proximity to Castellammare del Golfo and San Vito Lo Capo makes it easy to explore other coastal towns in the region during a stay.
