San Vito lo Capo

San Vito lo Capo is a seaside village at the north-western tip of Sicily, in the province of Trapani. It is known for its fine white sand beach and shallow turquoise waters, framed by the Monte Monaco headland. The village has a compact historic centre built around the Sanctuary of San Vito, a former fortified structure later converted into a place of worship. It also serves as a popular starting point for visiting the Zingaro Nature Reserve, one of Sicily's earliest protected areas, offering coastal footpaths and secluded coves. San Vito lo Capo is well known for its fish couscous tradition, a culinary legacy of historic ties with North Africa, celebrated each September at a dedicated food festival. The Mediterranean climate, hot and dry in summer, supports a tourist season running from May to October. The pedestrianised streets of the centre are lined with restaurants, shops and gelaterias, while the seafront has largely been kept free of high-rise development. The surrounding area, set between limestone cliffs and vineyards, adds to the natural appeal of this Sicilian coastal destination.
