Cherrueix

Cherrueix is a coastal village in Ille-et-Vilaine, on the edge of the Mont-Saint-Michel bay, between Dol-de-Bretagne and Le Vivier-sur-Mer. Recognised as one of the birthplaces of land yachting in France, it has hosted this activity for decades on the vast sandy expanses exposed at low tide. The sea wall running along the bay offers unobstructed views of Mont-Saint-Michel, particularly during high tides and at sunset. The village retains a rural character with traditional granite houses typical of the region and an old windmill, a reminder of the agricultural activity once carried out on the surrounding polders. Salt marsh landscapes, where sheep graze, define the immediate countryside. The nearby town of Le Vivier-sur-Mer, a well-known centre for rope-grown mussel farming, offers the chance to discover this local speciality.
