Sampieri

Sampieri is a small coastal hamlet in south-eastern Sicily, within the province of Ragusa and part of the municipality of Scicli. The village is best known for its long sandy beach fringed by pine trees, and for Fornace Penna, a disused early 20th-century brick factory whose atmospheric ruins were made famous by the Montalbano television series. The area remains largely undeveloped, offering a quiet setting outside the summer months, with visitor numbers picking up considerably in July and August. Nearby lies the Pino d'Aleppo nature reserve, popular for coastal walks. Sampieri also makes a convenient base for exploring Scicli and Modica, both UNESCO World Heritage towns celebrated for their Baroque architecture, as well as Marina di Ragusa a little further west. Local cuisine focuses on fresh seafood alongside traditional Sicilian dishes. The Mediterranean climate brings hot, dry summers ideal for time on the beach, and mild winters, making the surrounding region a pleasant year-round destination.
