Noto

Noto is a town in south-eastern Sicily, in the province of Syracuse, renowned for its baroque historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake destroyed the original town, it features a striking architectural ensemble of golden limestone, particularly visible along Corso Vittorio Emanuele. The Cathedral of San Nicolò, with its grand staircase, along with Palazzo Nicolaci and its balcony adorned with carved figures, are among the town's most notable buildings. The surrounding streets are lined with churches, palaces and ornate façades typical of Sicilian baroque style. Noto lies a few kilometres from the Ionian coast, where Noto Marina beach offers clear waters popular during the summer months. The area is also known for its local produce, including olive oil, citrus fruits and almond-based pastries. The Mediterranean climate, hot and dry in summer and mild in winter, makes the town suitable for visits throughout the year, with peak visitor numbers between June and September.
