La Oliva

La Oliva is a municipality in the north of Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, known for its volcanic landscapes and expansive desert scenery. The village retains notable architectural heritage, including the Casa de los Coroneles, a former residence of the island's military governors dating back to the 18th century, as well as the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria. The area connects to routes leading towards the northern beaches, such as Corralejo, renowned for their white sand dunes protected as a natural park. La Oliva enjoys a dry, sunny climate year-round, typical of the Canary Islands, with steady winds that attract enthusiasts of watersports such as kitesurfing and windsurfing. The surrounding countryside also offers hiking trails through volcanic scenery, including around Montaña Tindaya, a mountain considered sacred by the island's earliest inhabitants, the Majos. Local cuisine highlights goat's cheese products, particularly the renowned majorero cheese, alongside fresh fish from nearby coastal waters.
