El Rosario

El Rosario is a municipality in north-eastern Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, located close to Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Its territory stretches from coastal areas up into the wooded heights of the Anaga massif, a UNESCO-listed biosphere reserve. The municipality includes La Esperanza and part of the laurel forest (laurisilva) covering the slopes of Monte de las Mercedes, a rare subtropical ecosystem offering hiking trails and views over the Atlantic Ocean. The TF-24 road, which winds through the forest, leads to several scenic viewpoints such as Mirador de Jardina. The climate here is noticeably cooler and damper than on the island's southern coast, owing to the altitude and trade winds that often produce a distinctive sea of clouds. The area appeals to nature lovers and hikers thanks to its well-maintained network of forest paths. Its proximity to the island's capital also makes it easy to combine a city visit with a countryside excursion. Terraced vineyards and small-scale farming remain part of the local landscape in certain parts of the municipality.
