El Médano

El Médano is a small coastal town on the south coast of Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, well known as one of Europe's leading spots for windsurfing and kitesurfing thanks to consistently strong trade winds. The town stretches along golden sandy beaches, including Playa del Médano and Playa de la Tejita, the latter overlooked by the distinctive Montaña Roja, a volcanic cone that forms part of a protected natural area and is popular for its walking trails and views over the Atlantic Ocean. The climate is dry and sunny throughout the year, with mild temperatures even in winter, making it a destination favoured by watersports enthusiasts as well as families seeking beaches that feel less developed than those found in Tenerife's main tourist resorts. The town centre retains a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere, with pedestrian streets lined with surf-oriented bars, restaurants and shops. Its proximity to Tenerife South Airport, just a short drive away, makes it easily accessible, while still offering a more authentic feel than larger nearby resorts such as Los Cristianos or Playa de las Américas.
