Aci Trezza

Aci Trezza is a small fishing village on Sicily's eastern coast, part of the municipality of Aci Castello, just a few kilometres north of Catania. The village is best known for the Faraglioni dei Ciclopi, a striking group of basalt sea stacks rising from the water opposite the harbour, traditionally linked to the episode of Ulysses and the Cyclops Polyphemus in Homer's Odyssey. The setting also featured in Giovanni Verga's realist novel "I Malavoglia" and in Luchino Visconti's film "La Terra Trema", giving the village a notable literary and cinematic heritage within Italy. The small harbour still supports traditional fishing, and the seafront is lined with restaurants serving fresh fish and classic Sicilian dishes. The area enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Its location makes it an easy base for day trips to Catania, known for its Baroque architecture, and to Mount Etna, a UNESCO World Heritage volcano. Aci Trezza retains the atmosphere of an authentic fishing village, quieter than many of the larger resorts along the nearby coastline.
