Letojanni

Letojanni is a small seaside resort on Sicily's Ionian coast, in the province of Messina, just a few kilometres from Taormina. The village stretches along a sand-and-shingle beach lined with a lively promenade during the summer months, where fish restaurants, ice-cream parlours and shops cluster together. Its traditional fishing harbour reflects an activity that remains very much alive, and seafood features prominently in local cuisine. Its proximity to Taormina makes it easy to reach the ancient theatre and the historic centre perched on the hillside, while the village of Castelmola, set even higher up, offers sweeping views over the bay. The archaeological site of Giardini Naxos and the small island of Isola Bella, with its nature reserve, are also within easy reach. Mount Etna, Sicily's iconic active volcano, looms in the background and draws visitors keen on hiking and organised excursions. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes the area popular from May to September. Letojanni therefore serves as a convenient base for exploring Sicily's eastern coast while enjoying a quieter seaside setting than nearby Taormina.
