Carcans Plage

Carcans Plage is a seaside resort on the Gironde Atlantic coast, part of the town of Carcans in the Médoc region, north of the Arcachon Bay. It is known for its wide seafront backed by dunes and maritime pine forests, typical of the Côte d'Argent. The supervised ocean beach draws surfers and bodyboarders thanks to often powerful waves, though strong currents call for caution when swimming. Nearby, Lake Carcans-Hourtin, one of France's largest natural lakes, provides calmer waters ideal for sailing, paddleboarding and fishing. The surrounding state forest offers plenty of walking and cycling opportunities, including a dedicated cycle path linking Carcans Plage to the village and the lake. Development remains modest, with seasonal shops, a handful of restaurants and a summer market. The resort mainly appeals to families and nature lovers seeking a balance between wild beaches and pine forest scenery, retaining a quieter, more unspoilt feel than some of the busier resorts along the Aquitaine coastline.
