Canari

Canari is a village in Cap Corse, in the Haute-Corse department, perched on the slopes overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The commune comprises several hamlets scattered among maquis scrubland, olive groves and chestnut trees, linked by the departmental road that runs along the cape's western coastline. The village retains architecture typical of the region, with stone houses, Genoese towers and a church reflecting its local history. Nearby, the former asbestos quarry, worked until the 1960s, remains visible from the road owing to the greenish tint of the rock, a striking industrial remnant in the landscape. The rugged coastline offers sea views and access to a few coves, as well as to Marine de Giottani, a small seaside hamlet popular for swimming. The surrounding area is well suited to walking, particularly along the customs officers' path that crosses Cap Corse. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes outdoor activities possible for much of the year. Canari offers a quiet base for discovering the authentic character of Cap Corse, away from the island's busier tourist areas.
