Santanyí

Santanyí is a municipality in south-eastern Majorca, in the Balearic Islands, known for its historic centre built from golden sandstone, characteristic of the local architecture. The weekly market, held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, brings the main square and surrounding streets to life with local produce, crafts and fresh fruit and vegetable stalls. The municipality stretches down to the coast, home to some of Majorca's most celebrated beaches, including Cala Santanyí, Cala Llombards and the protected area of Es Trenc, admired for their turquoise waters and fine sand. Part of the coastline falls within a protected natural area, offering coastal paths ideal for walking and observing the Mediterranean landscape. Local gastronomy focuses on seafood and Balearic specialities, served in restaurants across the town centre and near the beaches. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, supports outdoor activities for much of the year. Santanyí retains an authentic character, less touristy than other parts of the island, while remaining easily accessible from Palma.
