Buis-les-Baronnies

Buis-les-Baronnies is a small town nestled in the heart of the Baronnies Provençales, in the Drôme department, close to Mont Ventoux. The village is traditionally linked to lime tree (linden) cultivation, with its harvest celebrated each summer during a local festival that draws growers and visitors alike. The renowned Tuesday market offers fruit, olives, lavender and other regional Provençal produce. The old town, with its narrow lanes, stone houses and remnants of a former convent, reflects the settlement's historic past. The surrounding landscape of hills, orchards and lavender fields is well suited to walking and hiking, while several rock faces in the Baronnies attract climbers. The dry, sunny Provençal climate, prevalent for much of the year, makes outdoor pursuits particularly appealing. The Ouvèze river runs through the town, providing a cool spot during the summer months. Buis-les-Baronnies therefore serves as a good base for exploring an unspoilt rural area between Provence and the Southern Alps, away from the busier tourist routes.
