Inca

Inca is a town in the interior of Majorca, in Spain's Balearic Islands, around twenty kilometres from Palma. Long known as the island's 'leather town', it built its reputation on a well-established shoe and leather-goods industry, which gave rise to the Camper brand. The weekly Thursday market, along with the large autumn agricultural fair known as Dijous Bo, are among the most popular events on the island. The town retains several historic cellars, former wine stores now converted into restaurants, serving traditional Majorcan dishes such as pa amb oli and cuinetes. The church of Santa Maria la Major stands at the heart of the old town, while Puig de Santa Magdalena, a hill topped by a hermitage, offers views over the surrounding plain and the foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. Well connected by the island's historic railway line running north from Palma, Inca makes a convenient base for exploring rural inland Majorca, away from the busier coastal resorts.
