Muravera Villaputzu

Muravera and Villaputzu are neighbouring towns in south-eastern Sardinia, in the province of Sud Sardegna, where the Flumendosa and Villaputzu rivers meet the Tyrrhenian Sea, at the foot of the Sarrabus hills. The area is known for its fine sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters, including Costa Rei, San Priamo and Porto Corallo, the latter being Villaputzu's former harbour, home to a 17th-century Spanish watchtower. The rural hinterland, still largely unspoilt, features citrus orchards, vineyards and Mediterranean scrubland, ideal for walking and exploring local wildlife. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, makes the region well suited to holidays from late spring through to autumn. Local cuisine centres on seafood, sheep's cheese and citrus fruit, particularly Muravera's oranges, celebrated with an annual local festival.
