Porto Corallo

Porto Corallo is a small coastal hamlet within the municipality of Villaputzu, on the south-eastern coast of Sardinia, in the province of South Sardinia. The site is easily recognised by its Spanish watchtower, built between the 16th and 17th centuries to guard the coastline against Barbary raids, which still overlooks the small bay and harbour today. The settlement is centred around a modest fishing and leisure port, surrounded by pale sandy beaches and shallow waters that are popular for swimming and watersports such as kitesurfing, thanks to the area's steady winds. The surrounding landscape, close to the mouth of the Flumendosa river, includes wetland areas well suited to birdwatching. The Mediterranean climate brings hot, dry summers ideal for enjoying the sea, along with mild winters. The region remains largely undeveloped, making it a destination valued more for its peace and quiet than for nightlife. The nearby hinterland of Ogliastra also offers opportunities for hiking amid its mountainous scenery.
