Bari Sardo

Bari Sardo is a municipality on Sardinia's eastern coast, in the province of Ogliastra, set between inland hills and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The historic village, built around an old centre with narrow lanes and traditional granite houses, is distinct from its seaside area, Marina di Bari Sardo, located a few kilometres along the coast. The latter offers long sandy beaches, including Cea beach, backed by a pine grove and popular for swimming and watersports such as kitesurfing, thanks to the area's steady winds. The Ogliastra region is known for its varied scenery, combining the Gennargentu mountains, gorges and unspoilt coastline, ideal for walking and day trips. Local gastronomy showcases Sardinian produce: sheep's cheese, cured meats, traditional breads such as pane frattau, and wines like Cannonau, the island's signature grape variety. The Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters, draws visitors mainly between May and September. Bari Sardo offers a quiet base from which to explore Ogliastra, away from Sardinia's busier tourist hotspots, while remaining close to notable natural sites.
