Porto Istana

Porto Istana is a small coastal spot in north-eastern Sardinia, part of the municipality of Olbia, on the fringes of the Costa Smeralda. This stretch of coastline is known for its shallow turquoise waters, pale sand and granite rock formations that punctuate the shore, characteristic of this part of the island. Mediterranean vegetation, including pine trees and maquis scrub, lines a beach popular for swimming and water sports such as snorkelling and paddleboarding. Its proximity to Olbia, just a short distance away, makes it a convenient base thanks to the international airport and ferry port linking the island to mainland Italy. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, draws most visitors between June and September. The surrounding area also offers boat excursions to the nearby La Maddalena archipelago. Compared with some other parts of the Costa Smeralda, Porto Istana remains relatively low-key and less built-up, giving it a quieter feel while still providing easy access to the shops and restaurants of the wider Olbia area.
