San Pantaleo

San Pantaleo is a hilltop village in the hinterland of the Costa Smeralda, Sardinia, just a short drive from Olbia and Porto Cervo. Set beneath distinctive granite rock formations, it is known for its local stone architecture, cobbled lanes and small central square dominated by the parish church. The village is particularly well known for its artisan market, traditionally held on Thursday mornings, which draws both locals and visitors from the coast and features ceramics, jewellery and leather goods made by regional craftspeople. The atmosphere here feels more genuine and low-key than in the nearby seaside resorts, while still offering a good choice of restaurants and cafés. The surrounding countryside is suited to walking among granite boulders and typical Sardinian maquis scrubland, with several viewpoints over the valley below. Being set at altitude, the village tends to enjoy slightly cooler temperatures than the coast during the summer months. San Pantaleo makes a convenient base for exploring the Costa Smeralda while staying in a quiet, village setting within easy reach of the beaches at Porto Cervo, Liscia di Vacca and Baja Sardinia.
