Cala d'Or

Cala d'Or is a coastal resort in south-eastern Mallorca, within the municipality of Santanyí in the Balearic Islands. Established in the 1930s by Ibizan architect Josep Costa Ferrer, the town is known for its whitewashed, cube-shaped buildings inspired by Ibizan style, particularly around the marina and the pedestrianised shopping promenade. The area is shaped by several small coves with turquoise waters and pine-fringed shores, including Cala Gran, Cala Esmeralda, Cala Ferrera and Caló des Serral, all popular for swimming and snorkelling. The marina itself draws yachts and pleasure boats and is lined with restaurants, bars and shops that stay lively into the evening. A typical Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters, supports a long tourist season running from May to October. Nearby, visitors will find several golf courses, including Vall d'Or Golf, as well as coastal paths leading to the neighbouring village of Porto Petro, which retains a quieter, more traditional feel. Palma, roughly an hour's drive away, and Son Sant Joan Airport are both within easy reach, making Cala d'Or a convenient, family-friendly seaside destination.
