Isola Rossa

Isola Rossa is a coastal village in north-western Sardinia, within the province of Sassari, forming part of the municipality of Trinità d'Agultu e Vignola. Its name, meaning 'red island', refers to a small pink granite islet visible offshore, characteristic of this stretch of the Costa Paradiso and the Gallura region. The village is centred around a small harbour and a 16th-century Aragonese watchtower, a reminder of the coastline's defensive history against Barbary raids. The surrounding beaches, such as Marinedda, feature the pale sand and turquoise waters typical of this granite coastline. The area is popular for diving, sailing and boat trips to the nearby La Maddalena archipelago. Inland, the Mediterranean scrubland, fragrant with myrtle and juniper, dominates the landscape. Local cuisine highlights fresh seafood alongside Sardinian specialities such as pecorino cheese and mountain-cured meats. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, supports an active tourist season running from June through September, drawing visitors seeking a quieter alternative to the busier northern resorts.
