Valledoria

Valledoria is a town in northern Sardinia, in the province of Sassari, situated at the mouth of the Coghinas river along the Tyrrhenian coast. The seaside area, including the districts of Marina di Valledoria and La Ciaccia, is known for its long, fine sandy beaches backed by dunes and pine woods, as well as the Coghinas river estuary, a wetland area popular for birdwatching. The region benefits from steady winds, making it a favoured spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The coastline extends westwards towards Isola Rossa and Castelsardo, the latter noted for its medieval castle and charming old streets, while Santa Teresa Gallura and its harbour lie within easy reach. The inland areas feature the rolling hills and Mediterranean scrubland typical of Sardinia. The climate is Mediterranean, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, and the tourist season peaks between June and September. Local cuisine highlights fresh seafood, Sardinian cheeses, and traditional bread and olive oil-based specialities.
