Aubazine

Aubazine is a village in the Corrèze department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, around fifteen kilometres from Brive-la-Gaillarde. It is known for its twelfth-century Cistercian abbey, one of the best-preserved monastic complexes in the region, featuring a cloister and the Canal des Moines, a channel carved into the rock to supply the monastery with water. Coco Chanel spent part of her childhood here, raised at the orphanage run by the abbey's nuns, a notable chapter in her personal history. Nearby, Lake Coiroux offers a leisure area with supervised swimming, water sports and an 18-hole golf course, popular for outdoor breaks. The surrounding countryside, typical of the rolling Corrèze landscape, features numerous walking trails through woodland and meadows, ideal for discovering the local rural heritage. The temperate climate, with warm summers and mild winters, makes the area suitable for year-round stays.
