Capitana

Capitana is a coastal locality in southern Sardinia, part of the municipality of Quartu Sant'Elena in the province of Cagliari. It stretches along the Gulf of Cagliari, right next to the well-known Poetto beach, offering direct access to the Tyrrhenian Sea with fine sandy beaches and shallow waters ideal for swimming. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, draws visitors from May to September. The area is mainly residential and seaside in character, with several beach clubs offering sunbed and parasol hire. Its location makes it easy to reach Cagliari, the regional capital, around fifteen kilometres away, home to the historic Castello district, Santa Maria Cathedral and the harbour. Nearby, the Molentargius wetland, a protected nature reserve known for its pink flamingos, provides an interesting outing, as do the surrounding hills, popular for walking. Capitana therefore serves as a peaceful base from which to enjoy the Sardinian coast while remaining close to the amenities of Cagliari.
