Paimpol

Paimpol is a small port town in the Côtes-d'Armor, in northern Brittany, historically known for its cod-fishing fleet that once sailed to Iceland, a heritage still celebrated in local folklore and song. The town's marina and lively quaysides reflect this maritime past, now centred on leisure sailing and coastal fishing. Nearby, Beauport Abbey, a substantial 13th-century monastic complex, can be visited within its seaside grounds. Paimpol also serves as a gateway to the Île de Bréhat, reachable by a short boat trip from the Pointe de l'Arcouest, well known for its pink-hued houses and mild microclimate that supports Mediterranean-style flora. The GR34 coastal footpath runs along the Ploubazlanec peninsula, offering views over coves and the pink granite rocks characteristic of this stretch of coastline. The area is also noted for its oysters and seafood, along with a traditional local market. The temperate oceanic climate allows for sailing, kayaking and walking for much of the year, set within an unspoilt rural and maritime landscape.
