Galéria

Galéria is a village on Corsica's western coast, in Haute-Corse, sitting at the southern entrance to the Scandola Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village lies at the mouth of the Fango River, whose valley is itself recognised as a UNESCO biosphere reserve for its outstanding landscapes and wildlife. The long pebble-and-sand beach along the Gulf of Galéria provides an unspoilt natural setting, popular for swimming and its peaceful atmosphere. The hamlet of Girolata, reachable only by boat or on foot along a coastal path, lies nearby and is a classic day trip from Galéria. The surrounding area is well suited to walking, scuba diving and wildlife watching, amid maquis scrubland, mountains and the clear waters of the Mediterranean. The village retains an unspoilt, authentic character, well away from the bustle of Corsica's larger seaside resorts. A Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, makes the area most enjoyable to visit from April to October. Galéria makes an appealing base for exploring the Balagne region and the wild scenery of the neighbouring Gulf of Porto.
