Priego de Córdoba

Priego de Córdoba, often referred to as the 'capital of Cordoban Baroque', lies at the foot of the Sierra Subbética in the south-east of Córdoba province. The town is renowned for its rich eighteenth-century architectural heritage, particularly evident in churches such as the Asunción, with its ornately decorated sacristy, and in the historic Barrio de la Villa, with its narrow, whitewashed streets typical of Andalusia. The Balcón del Adarve, a viewpoint offering panoramic views over the valley, is a notable local landmark. The medieval-origin castle bears witness to the town's contested past between Christian and Muslim rule during the Reconquista. The surrounding region is also known for the quality of its olive oil, produced in the nearby groves and holding protected designation of origin status. The neighbouring Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park offers hiking trails and karst landscapes well suited to outdoor pursuits.
