Cordoba/Rute

Rute is a town in the province of Córdoba, Andalusia, set within the Subbética natural region in the southern part of the province. It is particularly known for its artisanal production of anisette, the local anís de Rute, still crafted by several traditional distilleries; a local museum traces the history of this iconic spirit. The town is also noted for its turrón (nougat) and olive oil production, reflecting the strong agricultural heritage that continues to shape the local economy. The surrounding landscape, characterised by limestone hills and olive groves, offers excellent opportunities for hiking, particularly near the Sierras Subbéticas Natural Park, renowned for its biodiversity and karst rock formations. The historic centre retains the typical layout of Andalusian villages, with narrow streets and whitewashed houses. The Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters, makes outdoor activities enjoyable for much of the year. Rute therefore makes an interesting stop for exploring inland Córdoba, combining culinary tradition with unspoilt nature.
