Algajola

Algajola is a small coastal village in the Balagne region on Corsica's north-western coast, situated between Calvi and Île-Rousse. Overlooked by a 16th-century Genoese citadel built on a rocky promontory, the village retains an authentic character with its narrow lanes and granite houses. The fine sandy beach bordering the village is one of its main draws, offering calm, shallow waters well suited to family swimming. Algajola is served by the Balagne's small railway, the Trinighellu, which links Calvi and Île-Rousse and makes it easy to get around the coast without a car. The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking, with trails leading inland through the Balagne hills, while the sea offers scope for diving and kayaking. The wider region is also known for its olive groves and small-scale local produce, including honey and goat's cheese. With a Mediterranean climate bringing hot, dry summers, Algajola makes for a pleasant seaside base between June and September, offering a quieter alternative to the busier resorts nearby.
