Ver-sur-Mer

Ver-sur-Mer is a village in Calvados, Normandy, located along the D-Day coastline between Courseulles-sur-Mer and Arromanches-les-Bains. It sits on the Gold Beach sector, where British forces landed on 6 June 1944. The British Normandy Memorial, opened in 2021, honours Commonwealth soldiers who died during the Battle of Normandy and offers uninterrupted views over the Channel. The village retains a quiet, family-friendly character, with a broad sandy beach ideal for walks and water sports. A 19th-century lighthouse stands along the seafront, close to a casino and a golf course. Ver-sur-Mer is a convenient base for exploring the D-Day beaches, just a short drive from Bayeux and its cathedral, as well as Arromanches, where remains of the Mulberry artificial harbour can still be seen.
