La Bernerie-en Retz

La Bernerie-en-Retz is a small seaside resort on the Côte de Jade in the Loire-Atlantique department, just a few kilometres from Pornic. It is known for its fine sandy beaches, including Plage des Rochelets and Plage du Casino, both popular for swimming and family activities. The coastal footpath (sentier des douaniers) runs along the shoreline, offering views over the Atlantic Ocean, while shore fishing remains a common pastime at low tide thanks to the many rocky outcrops. The village retains a distinctly Breton-Vendéen character, with a regular market and local shops. The area enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, with mild, breezy summers well suited to watersports such as sailing and paddleboarding. La Bernerie-en-Retz railway station, served by regional express trains, provides convenient links to Nantes and to the neighbouring town of Pornic, known for its château and marina. The Guérande peninsula and its salt marshes are also within easy reach. Mainly residential and busiest during the summer season, the resort offers campsites and self-catering rentals well suited to family holidays.
