Carces

Carcès is a Provençal village in the Var department, at the heart of the Provence Verte region, just a short drive from Cotignac and Lorgues. The Argens river runs through the commune, which also borders Lake Carcès, a reservoir created by a dam, popular for fishing and countryside walks. The village retains an authentic charm with its narrow streets, fountains and traditional market offering local produce, particularly olive oil and wine, as the area is well known for its olive groves and vineyards. Nearby, the Abbey of Le Thoronet, a fine example of Cistercian architecture, is well worth a visit. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers, makes the area ideal for outdoor pursuits such as hiking in the surrounding hills, swimming in the lake, or exploring neighbouring hilltop villages like Cotignac with its striking troglodyte cliffs. Carcès offers a peaceful, unspoilt natural setting away from the busier coastal resorts, while remaining within easy reach of larger Var towns such as Draguignan and Brignoles.
