Bagnols sur Cèze

Bagnols-sur-Cèze is a town in the Gard department, set on the banks of the Cèze river and around thirty minutes from Avignon, Orange and Uzès. Its old town retains timber-framed houses and Renaissance façades gathered around Place Mallet, home to a traditional market. The town houses the Albert-André Museum of Modern Art, noted for its collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, many donated by artists of the period. A few kilometres away, the Gorges de la Cèze offer river swimming spots and walking trails popular during the warmer months. The surrounding countryside, characterised by garrigue scrubland and Côtes du Rhône vineyards, lends itself to winery visits and trips to hilltop villages such as Sabran or La Roque-sur-Cèze. Bagnols-sur-Cèze enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, making outdoor activities possible for much of the year. The town also serves as a convenient base for exploring the Pont du Gard and the Ardèche Gorges, both under an hour's drive away.
