San Nicolao

San Nicolao is a village in Haute-Corse, on Corsica's eastern coast, at the foot of the Castagniccia massif, a region renowned for its chestnut forests and architectural heritage of perched hamlets and baroque chapels. The village stretches between sea and mountains, close to Moriani-Plage, a seaside resort known for its fine sandy beaches along the Tyrrhenian Sea. The area is well suited to walking holidays, with trails winding through wooded valleys and linking the traditional villages of the Castagniccia. The region is also known for its local produce, particularly chestnuts, used in various traditional dishes, as well as Corsican charcuterie and honey. The Mediterranean climate, with hot dry summers and mild winters, makes outdoor activities possible for much of the year. San Nicolao therefore makes a convenient base for exploring both Corsica's coastline and its mountainous hinterland, offering a rural, authentic atmosphere away from the island's busier tourist resorts.
