Richerenches

Richerenches is a village in the northern Vaucluse, located within the historic Enclave des Papes, close to Valréas and not far from Grignan. It is known as one of France's principal centres for the black truffle trade, hosting a weekly market on Saturday mornings during the winter season, from November to March, which draws dealers and enthusiasts from across the region. This seasonal trade shapes much of village life and gives Richerenches its distinctive gastronomic identity. The surrounding landscape is quintessentially Provençal, with vineyards, lavender fields and truffle oaks framing the settlement. The Mediterranean climate, dry and sunny for much of the year, makes the area well suited to outdoor pursuits such as walking and exploring neighbouring villages. Richerenches serves as a convenient base for discovering the Drôme Provençale, with Grignan and its château just a short drive away, along with Vaison-la-Romaine and Mont Ventoux within easy reach. The village retains a quiet, rural character, away from major tourist crowds, offering an authentic setting for a stay centred on nature, local produce and Provençal heritage.
