Vieux-Boucau

Vieux-Boucau-les-Bains is a coastal town in the Landes department, best known for its tidal marine lake, a popular spot for swimming and watersports in calm, sheltered conditions away from the Atlantic swell. The main beach, backed by dunes and maritime pines, draws bodyboarders and surfers, as the Landes coastline is well regarded for its surf breaks. The village retains a traditional seaside character, with a small marina, local shops and a seasonal market. Every summer, the town hosts the Rock and Chanson festival, a music event that marks the high season. The surrounding pine forest offers walking and cycling routes linking Vieux-Boucau to neighbouring resorts such as Hossegor and Moliets. The mild oceanic climate allows visitors to enjoy the area from March through to November. Several campsites, including a municipal one, cater well to families. Positioned between the ocean and the lake, Vieux-Boucau makes a convenient base for exploring the southern Landes, combining fishing, hiking and watersports, while remaining a modest, unspoilt little town.
