Gemmano

Gemmano is a small village in the hinterland of the province of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna, perched on a hillside overlooking the Conca valley. The village retains a medieval character, with the remains of its old castle and narrow lanes offering clear views over the surrounding Romagna hills. The area is best known for the Onferno Nature Reserve, a notable geological site featuring gypsum caves carved out by water, home to a significant colony of bats and open to guided tours organised by the park. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking and nature watching, set within the rolling landscape typical of the hinterland between Rimini and San Marino, which lies just a few kilometres away. Nearby villages such as Montefiore Conca, with its Malatesta fortress, and Verucchio add further cultural interest to the area. The climate is mild Mediterranean, with warm, dry summers ideal for exploring and gentle winters. Gemmano remains a quiet destination suited to rural and nature-based tourism, away from the bustle of the nearby Adriatic coast.
