Acquarossa

Acquarossa is a municipality in the Blenio Valley, in the canton of Ticino, formed through the merger of several villages including Castro, Corzoneso, Dangio-Torre, Leontica, Lottigna, Ponto Valentino and Prugiasco. The locality's name refers to its iron-rich springs, known since the 19th century and once the basis of small thermal establishments. The village of Lottigna is home to the Casa Console, the former seat of the bailiff of the Blenio Valley, now housing a regional museum dedicated to the valley's history and traditions. The landscape is typical of Ticino's alpine valleys, featuring wooded slopes, stone hamlets and mountain pastures, notably around Alpe di Nara, reachable by cable car and popular for walking and panoramic views. The area is also known for its mountain cuisine, with chestnuts, alpine cheeses and polenta among the local specialities. Acquarossa serves as a good base for exploring the Blenio Valley, valued for its tranquillity, rural heritage and unspoilt natural surroundings, away from the busier lakeside areas of Ticino.
