Astano

Astano is a small municipality in the Malcantone area, in the canton of Ticino, southern Switzerland, close to the Italian border and just a few kilometres from Lake Lugano. This rural village sits amid the wooded hills typical of the region, where chestnut groves, meadows and traditional stone hamlets alternate across the landscape. Malcantone is known for its rolling countryside and peaceful atmosphere, well away from the bustle of larger Ticino towns such as Lugano, roughly a twenty-minute drive away. The surrounding area offers numerous walking trails through the countryside, neighbouring villages and viewpoints overlooking the Ticino Prealps and, at times, the lake itself. The mild, Mediterranean-influenced climate for much of the year makes it ideal for outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling, or simply exploring the local architectural heritage, characterised by stone houses and small rural churches. Astano is particularly well suited to travellers seeking tranquillity, unspoilt nature and authenticity, in a setting that remains far less touristy than the shores of Lake Lugano.
